One Nation Reading Together’ - ONRT 2013

Reading as a hobby has always been encouraged among our students. We have always had Scholastic Fairs at our school at regular intervals during the academic year so that the students who are avid readers get an opportunity to buy more books and the others also get inculcated into the habit of reading.
In this context, it was fun being a part of ‘One Nation Reading Together’ - ONRT 2013. Students from all classes – from the pre-primary sections to the X – participated with a lot of enthusiasm as they were a part of a ‘national activity’.  While most of them were engrossed in reading books written by their favourite authors, others who were more artistically inclined, made bookmarks.
The 30 minutes passed fast…..in fact we felt that they passed too fast. We appreciate the
endeavour made by Scholastic India who have started this activity with a noble purpose and
we also feel glad that we have been an integral part of the exercise.

Children's Day Celebrations

Children’s Day was celebrated to the delight of everyone at Orchids. There was a graceful dance to Sri Annamacharya’s song, ‘Adigo Alladigo’ by Mrs. Swathi, preprimary teacher. The teachers of Primary wing enacted a skit of classroom scenario. It was a natural depiction of the classroom situation, with innocent children arguing and complaining.  Trying to be obedient they seem to have their own way. The teachers of classes VI to X also presented a skit. They answered General knowledge questions put to them by a member of CBSE team who was later found out to be a real actor himself. Their answers delighted and entertained the children immensely.
There was a small demonstration correlating light with sound, by Mrs. Lakshmi, French teacher. As the grand finale Principal, Mrs. Mona Mehdi  had  a few hilarious jokes to share to the amusement of the spectators.
All the children enjoyed the performances of their teachers. Their cheer and whole-hearted laughter encouraged the performers to entertain their spirited audience all the more.
